any Pipe smokers in here?

I smoke both pipes and cigars. They are so different, does one influence your opinion of the other?

For me, cigars are more 'purist', since they are usually just fermented tobacco with no flavoring. While I like the aroma of a cigar, I also enjoy the that smell of cavendish wafting about.

Somehow, pipes are more 'acceptable' to the general non-smoking public. It smells pretty, so the dummies nod their heads in assent. Spark up a nice Churchill in public, and you're the freegin' anti-Christ (well, at least here in Taxifornia).

your thoughts?

I like both pipes and cigars. I'll generally go to the pipe when I have a short amount of time to smoke. You can put as much in the bowl as you want.

Mr Simi,

I also am an avid pipesmoker, though I enjoy a fine cigar as well. I agree with you unreservedly; there is a huge difference between pipe tobacco and fine cigars. Pipe tobacco can be aromatic or heavy, cased or raw, roasted or dried, moist or dry, whilst cigars will come in different colours, shapes, sizes and flavours.

Very recently, I purchased a KIM Liverpool of antique age, with a very thick cake of carbon, signifying heavy usage. Before I light my first bowl, I puffed a little through the stem, and I could taste heavy English tobacco when there was not even any in there!

I traditionally enjoy Dunhill 965, although Dunhill have ceased all production of pipe tobaccos, due to supplier problems. Therefore, I have had to revert to enjoying more available pipe tobaccos, such as the toasty St Bruno and very aromatic Clan. Despite loving heavy Englishes, such as 965, I do have a sweet tooth when it comes to pipe tobacco, and I enjoy vanilla and cherry aromatics.

In terms of cigars, a short smoke is my kind of thing, enjoying Cafe Cremes, although a fine robusto never gets turned down!

Happy pipology,

Goodlife

When kicking the cigarettes I bought a couple cheap pipes and a selection of tobbacco, Tough Cigars seem to be claiming all my time right now. I have went back and bought some more of the House brand Black Cavendish. Now I just need a decent pipe so it'll quit burning my tougue and ruining my ability to taste. The prices of pipes is disturbing.
