Sampler for a new smoker?
Posted on: 03/29/2005 05:10 PM
I just started smoking cigars. My wife for the holidays gave me the cigar of the month club......the gift that keeps on giving!
Now that has run out and I have found a few cigars I like from it.
My favorite right now it Carlos Torano Exodus 1959.
I would like to get 3-5 different cigars bundles that I really enjoy in my humidor.
My question to all of you is what sampler should I try next?

Right now I do not like Church hills, 1 1/2 hours is too long to smoke for me.

Price is a concern, I would like to pay under $150 a box. For a $150 I would hope that it is a great cigar.

So if anyone has any suggestions what so ever I would really appreciate them.
Thank you
Tony

JR's is running a special on 20 different robustos right now. It's $60 - that's $3 per cigar average, and some of these retail for $8 and $8.50. I just finished this sampler today. Last month I had their 20 corona sampler. Click Here to go to there.

I really like the Romeo y Julieta as well as the TTT Trinidad. The Fonseca Cedar Aged was great as well.

You have good taste Tonydogs. I also love Toranos. I live in Tampa (cigar city) and there is a great cigar shop here name Metropolitan Cigars. Boxes of Toranos from $72 to over 100 if you want Toranos.

Other than that, I have found that I also dont have the time for a Churchill, I smoke Robustos, more like a 5-5 1/2" X 48-52 ring sz. This is more like an hour max.

Try Hoya's also , maybe an Excaliber, nice smoke for the price.

Happy Smoking !

if you are a new smoker the extra price paid to local tobacconists for their expertise is well worth the expense. Shop frequently and pay attention to what you are learning.
The reasons for this is that when you buy online, and especially when trying a new source, you will learn that not all retailers are equal. There are some that know their product, take care of it, and keep it fresh so that your sample is truly what you can expect if you buy a bundle of their cigars. On the other hand, sometimes when you receive that sampler, you need to know if it is too dry or too wet. The common practice now is to "stick them in the humidor for a few weeks" this is because most people let their humidor equalize out the moisture so that they do not have to learn how to evaluate the product they receive. This is why you will often see mixed results for the same cigar. It is not the cigar but the care it received before being consumed. (Please I am not trying to make anyone irrate.)

Greetings from Charlotte NC...
I am so excited about my new discovery of the Carlos Torano Signature Series... Toro.
If the Carlos Torano you had is only half as good as the one I had it was a great cigar.
I have been smoking for about 8 months; only about 3-4 sticks per month. This is only the second cigar I smoked that I would purchase a box.
The other by the way... is the Rocky Patel - Sun Grown - Petite Corona, size is too small; I like the Robustos / Toros etc. But the Petite Corona had a good oiley look.

Back to the Carlos Torano's ... the next batch of cigars will all be Carlos Torano; did just have a 1916 also very good.

Long Ashes to you!!!

Try Cigarbid .com sampler auctions. You can usually get a good assortment of high premium quality brands ay great prices. I just got a shipment which included a Gurkha sampler of 13 (3 Regent Torpedo, 3 Legend Anniversary, 3 Master's Select Toro, 3 Expedition Toro, and 1 Centurion XX. All these for only 37 bucks! Try the Expedition if you're just starting out, it's a great bargain retail, and it's smooth.

Go to Cigars International and look at their 5 pack samplers,Not 5 of the same thing, 5 different ones. My favorites are the gran habanos. See what you might like, they're all good in my opinion. Note the price and go to cigar bids.com, It's the same as C.I.'s, just a different branch of the company, and bid on the ones you saw at C.I.'S, but no more then 3 quarters of the price, happy bidding, see you there.

I know a mild cigar sampler package if you want, I bought my mild cigars sampler from the women smoking cigars blog. They were offering some kind of deal for buying it from their site...do you like arturo fuente cigars or cohiba cigars?
